Understanding the Benefits of ISO 9001
|
Plain City, Ohio, Feb. 4, 2010 -- A leading laser cutting company in the United States based near Columbus, Ohio Laser LLC announced that they recently received the ISO 9001:2008 certification.
This certification issued and maintained by the International Organization for Standardization is a quality management system.
Many customers have asked Company President Gregg Simpson to explain in simple terms
what ISO 9001 is, and how it can benefit them. Simpson has made it clear that top benefit of ISO 9001 is improving quality control.
Simpson further explains to his customers that all companies that have the ISO 9001
certification must maintain detailed records, manage processes that handle key procedures in the business, review production output for any defects with a correction plan in place, systematically check processes as well as
evaluate the quality system for its overall effectiveness and work to instill continual improvement.
Simpson said a company has specific requirements that hey must follow to maintain the ISO 9001: 2008 certification.
A company must first create customer communication systems. This system is used to convey information such as product inquiries, orders and complaints to customers, vendors as well as stakeholders.
If a company
is ISO 9001 certified, the product development phase at the business must include at every phase testing and documentation. These are necessary to ensure products meet regulatory and design requirements, not to mention user
needs.
A quality policy must be created by the management of an ISO 9001 company. A quality policy marries the marketing and business plans to the requirements of the customers. This policy must be adopted and followed
by all employees. In addition, the quality system is regularly checked to ensure it remains effective and performs as expected. Improvements must be made long the way if the system is not performing. All of the audits and the
resulting decisions are required to be documented with extensive supporting records.
Simpson said Ohio Laser has worked hard to achieve this certification since the beginning of 2008. The entire staff is happy to have
received this quality standard and is very proud to offer it to their customers.
Ohio Laser, now in its 12th year of operation with 19 employees, is a high technology laser cutting and metal fabrication shop. Core
competencies include flat and tube laser cutting, CNC bending, robotic welding, surface finishing and machining. The company supplies parts and finished products to the automotive, agriculture, defense, construction, off-road,
